A Frivolous Lawsuit
A right wing Zionist organization, the Lawfare project, has filed a lawsuit against San Francisco State
university, and named Professor Abdulhadi as co-defendant. This is an attempt to silence academicians who teach and research Palestine, get rid of Professor Abdulhadi’s AMED Studies program, the General Union of Palestinian Students and her personally at SFSU. So while the lawsuit is frivolous, bogus and full of false allegations, misrepresentations and mischaracterization as Palestine Legal puts it, the US (and Israeli) media basically reprinted the Zionist press release without bothering to check the facts: The Los Angeles Times; Newsweek; The Washington Post and even Inside Higher Education.
Worse yet, SFSU came out with a statement that contradicted the findings of the independent investigator the university hired last year, who found that the student protest was not against Jewish students and community but against Israel and Nir Barakat. More recently anti-Zionist Jewish activists also testified that these charges are bogus and even wrote about them.
There has been strong support from California Scholars for Academic Freedom and the Middle East Studies Association (MESA). Other academic associations are working on statements.
In addition, we published a new petition in support of Professor Abdulhadi and General Union of Palestinian Students (GUPS).

Birzeit University, Palestine, March 2018
Initiated by the Arab and Muslim Ethnicities and Diasporas Studies (SFSU) and co-sponsored by the Ibrahim Abu Lughod Institute for International Studies and the Institute for Women’s Studies at Birzeit University and a host of Palestinian and international universities and research institutions. Teaching Palestine: Pedagogical Praxis and the Indivisibility of Justice international conference will be convened in Palestine between March 12 and 30, 2018.
This academic year, 2017-2018, coincides with significant anniversaries in Palestinian history: the 50th anniversary of the 1967 Israeli occupation of the West Bank, Gaza Strip, East Jerusalem, Sinai and the Golan Heights (June 5, 2017); the 35th anniversary of the Israeli invasion of the Lebanon and the Sabra and Shatila Massacre (September 17, 2017): the 100th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration (November 2, 2017); and the 70th of the UN Partition of Palestine (November 29, 2017), Deir Yassin Massacre (April 9, 2018) and the Nakba (May 15, 2018).
The current political and historical moment is particularly significant. Israeli colonialism, racism and occupation is deepening and entrenching. By contrast, Palestinian resistance to the Zionist project is appropriately taking multiple/different shapes and forms in all the geographies of dispossession, displacement and precarious existence. Shaping Palestinian politics is a regional and international context that is characterized by deepening poverty, civil wars, imperialist interventions, unrestrained neoliberal economic policies, hostile alliances, and the recolonization of previously decolonized nations. Rooted in xenophobic, Orientalist, Zionist, and other supremacist Ideologies, the consolidation of global and regional alliances under the guise of the so-called “war on terror” has fueled an alarming rise in Islamophobic and anti-Arab racism as well as an escalation in targeting marginalized communities.

SFSU Officials Condemn Derogatory Posters
SFSU officials condemn posters targeting professor
San Francisco State University President Les Wong sent out a campus-wide email Friday saying the posters targeting Abdulhadi were vandalism and bullying behavior, “not an issue of free speech."
“This attack happened to our whole campus community, and we must condemn these actions when an opinion or position has morphed into a personal attack. A line has been crossed, and we are investigating any legal recourse we have with the perpetrators,” the letter read.
Brooklyn College and City University of New York (CUNY) are among the latest faculty and students being slandered as “terrorist supporters” by the David Horowitz Freedom Center.
One of the other California universities attacked by extremist Zionists and Israel advocacy groups with the closure of the Edward Said search this past year is California State University, Fresno (CSU Fresno). Understanding the nature of such attacks elucidates these Zionist groups' intent to defame, dismantle, and eliminate departments and individuals representing the truth about Palestine.
The Palestine Exception to Free Speech
"Palestinian professors like Dr. Hatem Bazian and Dr. Rabab Abdulhadi, along with students involved in Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) on campuses nationwide, have faced years of threats and harassment from right-wing, Islamophobic, anti-Palestinian groups for their activism. All too often, they receive little to no support from university officials, calling into question whose rights are deemed worthy of protection. The US government itself has sought to repress organizing for Palestinian rights."
